PHW Update/Favorites of 2012 So Far

As there might be three or four of you out there wondering why it’s been almost a month since I’ve posted anything on PHW, here’s a brief update.  I’ve been extremely busy between 3 kids, 2 jobs, and a wife – I’m working 7 days a week right now and don’t have a day off in the foreseeable future.  Posting has taken a back seat and won’t ride shotgun again until things cool off and I once more feel the urge.  Maybe that’s 2 weeks or 2 months, or maybe longer.  Right now I really have no desire to keep at it, but, as always, that’ll change at some point.

Lately I’ve been listening, almost exclusively, to The Walkmen.  I’m in love with about ¾ of Heaven, and have had You & Me, Bows +Arrows, Lisbon, and even A Hundred Miles Off on repeat for the past 2 weeks.  I told a friend the other day that I now consider them my favorite working band, which is a very big deal (in my head).  They take that highly prestigious title from Spoon, who themselves swiped it from Wilco around the time of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga/Sky Blue Sky.

Anyway, here are my favorite records/songs of the first half of 2012, in no particular order.  You can find more info on most of these releases in my back pages:

  1. Hey James, I really love The Walkmen album too. It’s great. They have really matured into a wonderful band. Really love albums by The Men and Beach House too. Hope work slows down a bit for you and you can get back to a more normal lifestyle.

  2. Joe

Great blog, keep up the good work. I’ve been telling friends the same thing about The Walkmen, “favorite band,” since You & Me, but seems like many folks haven’t taken the time to dive into the greatness. Glad you found time to post again, and, hopefully the fire comes back for you sooner than later.

  3. Hey, love that Celebration Rock as well. This is sort of irrelevant but do you have that Replacements bootleg Unintentionally? I saw you uploaded it on your old blog but the file has since been deleted!

my email is k.vanicek@live.com, and it would make my day if you could help this old ‘mats fan out.
