I’m sorta disappointed that there isn’t another song on The Slideshow Effect that matches the soaring “The Kids Were Wrong”; I had my hopes high after hearing the first single from the Memoryhouse debut LP a few weeks back. Don’t get me wrong, the album is fine (it’s streaming at Spin), but I’m just not hearing anything that moves me as much as the lead single. Regardless, this song is killer. There’s something in “The Kids Were Wrong” that really reminds me of Camera Obscura, a band that I absolutely adore. Yeah, there’s the female-fronted, heavily reverbed indie-pop thing going on, but I think it’s more in the way singer Denise Nouvion’s voice and melodies convey such a warm, bittersweet sadness that, for some reason, just makes me want to smile and sing along. The video was directed by Shawn Brackbill.
