Twin Cabins is the solo work of Mexico City born, San Diego based sound artist Nacho Cano. I was compelled to listen to his upcoming One Year. EP after seeing that striking cover image. Before listening I had no idea what to expect as far as genre went, but somehow the quietly unsettling ambient/noise that followed seemed to perfectly reflect that rather grotesque image you see above. These five tracks lurk through some pretty ominous territory – it’s glacial and bleak and, in the end, completely captivating. The songs sound more like the distant echoes of music than music itself, and, not unlike those of Tim Hecker’s recent masterpiece Ravedeath 1972, seem to exist outside time and space. The EP is streaming in full at bandcamp, but doesn’t see official release for another week or so. Have a listen to the impossibly patient track “Hands” below.
