[2011 Catch Up] Thee Oh Sees – Carrion Crawler/The Dream

Well that didn’t take very long.   I’ve spent the better part of the past two days getting caught up with San Fran garage/psyche war horses Thee Oh Sees.  First it was Castlemania, the exhilarating, slapdash home recording (almost) solo project of band leader John Dwyer (just scroll down one post or click here).  That one was on repeat for a majority of the morning and early afternoon and proceeded to melt most of brain right out of my head.  I think whatever was left is gone after spending the night with the band’s other 2011 release, Carrion Crawler/The Dream.  I’ve sat on this band for long enough and now just want to know what the fuck I was waiting for.  Where Castlemania is primarily one dude’s spastic, childlike, drugged-out mix of nightmarish psyche-folk, Carrion Crawler/The Dream finds the full band stretching out its damaged garage rock sound into some seriously bone-rattling, expansive JAMS.  At the rate this band spits out material, I’m sure it won’t be long before we get something new, but for now Carrion Crawler/The Dream and Castlemania are about all the rock & roll this boy can handle.  Makes me feel like I should have waited a few weeks to post my 2011 Albums list.
