Carey Mercer’s solo project Blackout Beach recently released Fuck Death on Dead Oceans. It follows last year’s Paul’s Tomb: A Triumph from his primary band Frog Eyes. Though predominantly built off synths, the new record is quieter but no less intense than the piercing guitar work and throaty, agitated growling Mercer employs in Frog Eyes. Fuck Death was named after a Leon Golub painting and is, in Mercer’s words, an attempt to make something about Beauty and War. I have very little experience with these concepts. You should read the CMG review for this one because, as usual, they pretty much nail it.
