Mercury Rev’s Deserter’s Songs to be Reissued

Mercury Rev’s 1998 stone-classic Deserter’s Songs is getting the reissue treatment this May from Co-Op Music.  The David Fridmann-produced set of celestial + sweeping orchestral psyche/pop was a dramatic reinvention for the former noiseniks that featured contributions from Garth Hudson and Levon Helm of The Band.  I have no reservations saying that not only is Deserter’s Songs one of the very best album’s of the 90s, on any given day it’s one of my favorite records of all time.  The two-disc set comes with 13 b-sides, outtakes, and demos and drops May 16.
